YO. Thought I’d drop an in screenshot-size IRL-shareable graphic in case you HAPPEN to be discussing this list to trusted homies in person (psst please do).

WE DID A POLL last issue, asking if you preferred a tighter, more curated experience, or if we should keep trying to cover as many events as possible.

The answers were pretty much the exact advice I’ve been getting for my life forever :

1. Stop trying to do everything for everyone (CONDENSE)

2. Focus on what makes you YOU (CURATE)

3. Give people more lead time instead of trying to make it perfect (CONCEDE)

SHOCKING. At this point I’m surprised I haven’t tattooed these pieces of advice to my forehead.

SO. Here’s what we’re thinking moving forward:

A WEEKLY list, out every Thursday before 4pm PST, containing:

• my personal top picks for things happening that upcoming weekend, across all categories. (5-10 total).

• 3-5 top picks for upcoming events (two weeks to a month out )

• 1-2 things on the horizon to be aware of (further than a month out)

Events will be selected for maximum levels fun-ness, magic-ness, quality-ness, inside-scoop-ness and novelty-refreshing-ness-ness. A listing can only be in each category once, so the “upcomings” & “on the horizons” will change every week.

VIP paid subscribers will still have these pop up in the g-cal automatically, as well as receive our three comprehensive guides:

• the summer fest guide.

Ok, in other news, since apparently Bass Coast is TOMORROW (not actually, but pretty much), I’ll be sending out the original Beginner’s Guide To Festival Raving to my personal Substack readers this Tuesday. BOY OH BOY is it chock full of hilarious anachronisms. Remember when there was no cell service outside of major cities? Or when cocktails-in-a-can hadn’t been invented yet? That year I accidentally used hairspray instead of leave-in conditioner all summer because: acid? THOSE WERE THE DAYS.

I’m not trying to bring heels into the forest anymore, but I do still enjoy turning a look or two. For those of us whose wallets were not informed of festival season’s imminence (RUDE), I’m hosting a big ol’ clothing swap Monday night at the new studio. AND WITH THAT, my loves, I very much implore you to stay safe, be fabulous, and FFS, dig into your lil pockets of joy. I used to worry that touting my party purveyor torch in these tumultuous times might read as avoidant or insensitive — but then I stopped giving a fuck, because I’m in my forties (natch) but also, it STILL FEELS CORRECT. Rave culture started out as a movement. For me, it still is, and to me, that still matters.
